The Music of S H R i M P

S H R i M P has multiple aspects of music within the game aside from the tracks that plays on the Stereo (referred as Stereo Music). In this portfolio section I will provide examples of the types of music in S H R i M P. All the types are:
Stereo Music
Church Music
VOID Music
Ghost Music
Train Music

Stereo Music

Stereo Music incases all sorts of genres and all tracks are experimental either from the rhythm, melody or general flow of the track. I wanted the whole soundtrack to be high key experimental and base it on concepts of genres rather than the actual genre itself. I’ve taken core concepts of genres and made that the final form of S H R i M P’s music, which gives it that eccentric taste not really found elsewhere. I call it concept-core (not to be confused with the main “Core” definition of music which means moshing a genre with hardcore or punk rock music. Though this definition does change overtime depending how it is generally used. This Core just means the actual word as in the primary root of something.), or better yet Shrimp-Core.

  • House Water implies the core sense of Jazz with a mixture of electronic elements subsiding in the background. The up-beat drums partake on the sense of relaxation and chillness.

  • The idea of this track was to take the ineffable factors of nostalgia from the sounds of an ice cream truck from child hood memories and turn it into a song. The resulting premise I wanted to engender from Shallow Door is timeless comfort and vague darkness. The beat is structured on the frolic nature of stepping into those warm memories as an adult which doing so does bring some form of gloom. That gloom is represented within the odd pitching and out of place snares within the beat, even though the beat has odd spots it feels rather natural.

  • Being embraced after a long day of toughs work is a simple gesture that brings complex yet basic warmth to someone. Cradle is based on that feeling within its complicated melody. The pacing of the packed melody is what makes it tingle in that motion of simplicity. The track is very sophisticated when taking yourself out of the zone of it, but feels the opposite when vibing to it. It’s exactly queued on the roots of the word Cradle.

  • Forging the sense of wonder, mystery, contradiction, and askew sounds in that Shrimp-Core style had been a challenge. Especially since it is one that is still undergoing development.

  • Themed on the soul of not being able to accept the unfolding reality. It is the fabrication of reality measuring beyond a bitter bend far from your line of endurance. It is enraged sadness at its best.

  • Very experimental track possessing colosseum-like influence in the Shrimp-Core style.

Church Music

In S H R i M P you visit church environments that do not allow the frequencies to play from your stereo. The Church incases its own music you’ll hear while making your way around. Here are some tracks situated in this environment. I will not lay out a description of these tracks as they are all under the same fruition of influence and contain the same instruments.

VOID Music

In S H R i M P you come across an entity named False Car. This entity has its own stereo and plays this music that seemingly doesn’t exist in the game’s point in lore hence the name VOID in it. VOID Music has a muffled resonation to it fizzled with complete chaos and flight responded adrenaline. When VOID Music plays it lets the player know False Car is lurking around. All tracks are manifested on that muffled chaos explained above. It is sort of Dark-Lofi, if that is a thing.

Ghost Music

On higher difficulties Porcelain Ghost uses an entity named Invalid Parser to highjack your Stereo so it can play its own music. This music is dubbed as Ghost Music. It is sporadically charged, nonsensical and dreadful beats to scare the Shrimp. I thought of the Jack U duo, wanting to manifest that hectic energy it forges but transgress it to horror. Ghost Music is definitely an out there concept intermeshing multitudes of genres in a mutilating way.

Train Music

Music that plays when taking a ride within Train 44. It is the combination of energetic elevator music with Drum & Bass elements. There is a distinct washed out texture laced in the DnB elements to give that elevator more prominence
